Happy days are here again...
If anything, my interest in the game has been renewed by a decision I made to level up some lowbie jobs to 37. My first target – thief. I had got it to 15 (barely – I was 46 into level) a long time ago, but decided I wanted to get it to 37 for a) fun, and b) as a potential sub for any melee I want to level. So, buying up gear, and deciding to go thf/mnk for SA Combo damage, I hit the dunes – and it was actually enjoyable. Full of the usual newbies, but occasionally one who knows what they are doing (thanks Aelathir!). Fun fun fun. Actually you can tell the new people by the “why aren’t you using a dagger? Thf must use dagger!’ comments, the veterans are like oooo SA Combo yes, please!! Average WS of about 120 bears out my choice. Going thf/mnk to 20, maybe 24, then dual wielding, main handing sword until 33 and Viper Bite. Pulling, I do miss shadows though, pugils hit hard…
I think maybe I was a bit burned out on maging it all the time. I needed a break and had to get back to having some fun. So – in between levelling blm to 60 (my current magely focus) I am going to level some jobs to 37. Thf first (currently 18), followed by, in no particular order, mnk (18-37), drg (10-37), rng (1-37) and sam (1-37). Why? Because I want to!

Thanks Kirsteena, for reminding my "why" I want to level a whole bunch of jobs. Lately I've been wondering just what I intended to do with WAR and DRK and BLM at 60, and NIN, THF, MNK all at 37. Because I want to is really reason enough. Yes, I will have more flexibility for capped events, but really, I just think they'd be fun, at least until I hit the grind at the higher levels.
Actually, leveling NIN from 20 to 37 won't be fun, but that's a very useful level to get that to.
