Chainspell and other thoughts
Feb. 27th, 2006 09:12 am2 hour description - Chainspell: Allows for rapid spellcasting.
Doesn’t sound much does it? But I have been thinking about it a lot recently, realising the potential of it.
I mean – look at some of the other 2 hours. Astral Flow. Does a great deal of damage, but wrecked by the bloodpact timer. Eagle Eye Shot. One unmissable hit that actually sometimes misses. Meiyko Shushi (or however it is spelt) is good, but you need to burst to do some truly spectacular damage. Manafont you still have the timers to deal with. Hundred Fists is a stunning one I will admit. Invincible and Perfect Dodge are fine until you have a mob cast a massive spell on you, then you die...
I guess the reason for thinking this is I have been playing with it a fair deal yesterday. First of all we took on Tenzen for Istari to get him sea access. Sar self-lighted and we burst on it, but I still held Chainspell back. Ehran went down with Tenzen at about 30%, I Chainspelled, 3 Thunder IIIs later, Tenzen gave up. Each was doing about 550 damage, and that wasn’t with my optimum nuking set up. Grats on getting sea!
Anyway – where is this entry heading other than my meandering thoughts? Well, I finally left DarkProphecy, as I just couldn’t justify the times, and joined Konoha fulltime, a newly set up HNMLS run on EU times by some old dear friends of mine (I also see Kabukajeo left, I guess in preparation of quitting the game /sniff. I'll miss you Kabu). Friday night was god pop item hunt, and we managed to get enough for 2 Genbu and 1 Suzaku. While heading up to sky on the Sunday to fight the gods, we grabbed another Faust, giving us 2 Suzaku.
The problem with Suzaku is his two hour is Chainspell. And unlike most mobs in the game, he knows how to use it (Maat does sometimes, like on me, but at other times he casts goofy stuff like Regen and Poison). A mob with infinite mp, Chainspelling Firaga III, Fire IV and Flare is NOT fun to deal with. You basically have two options with dealing with it – either you Shadowbind him and run like hell, but he will still be casting, or you have a rdm/drk Chainspell/Stun his spells while everyone else runs away… we chose the latter method. First time we fought him Demijayde did the honours, and only a couple of spells got through before she died. Adaman Feet dropped on that run. Next up was me. It’s a bizarre feeling, being in the main alliance, but literally just sitting there watching until you see “Suzaku uses Chainspell” come up on your screen. Hit Chainspell starting casting stun, wait one, stun, wait one, stun, wait one and so forth. A couple of spells got through, and I died to his last Flare before Chainspell wore off. But, I was the only one in the main alliance who died, so job done.
We also fought Genbu twice, and I got the drop that I coveted in this game more than anything – Genbu’s shield. Time to play with it tonight!
Funny comment of the day. Rest of ls were popping Olla, when over Vent someone said "ooo a dead body over there". Suddenly a tell from Aldric "your heading to Olla right?" Kirsteena: "Oh its you is it lol" Aldric: "News travels fast I see....". Anyway, thank you Ald for not bringing your Thundaga IIIing pot in amongst us!
Edit: In case anyone was wondering how I felt when Genbu's Shield fell - my tell to Aldric simply read wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot...
