Cut cause it is MASSIVE and full of spoilers...
And so the several month long struggle is over. The set has changed a lot since we decided to start it, but three of us who have been there since the very beginning, myself, Cytherea and Aldric managed to smack down Promathia last night. Sarise, the only other remaining member of the set, still has to do the last fight, but she will be ok (silly work)! Picked up Ehran, Hayly, Istari, Endu along the way, lost many more, Patient, Tildain (both of whom have quit the game), Creon, Darkdragon, plus some others who only stayed a short time.
Yesterday begin at the point after completing the racial towers. We had to pick up two Brands to allow us access to the BC for 8-3 – Brand of Dawn, Brand of Twilight. Annoying, we discovered Ghrahs can aggro from below, as I found when I suddenly had waterga III cast on me out of nowhere. Discovered that running off ahead when others weren’t behind you was a bad thing, as myself, Ehran and someone else was left to watch helplessly as Cytherea died to a Ghrah, without figuring out how to get to them. The Garden of Ru’hmet is confusing as hell – full of ramps with many exits. What makes it even more fun is having to run the gauntlet – a room with four spinning pots. Two will aggro because they spin so fast. When they leave their pedestals the door you are aiming for slams shut, and stays that way till they are back. They resisted mine and Hayly’s ES/Sleepga, so we went with zombie tactics – die against the exit door, and reraise up. Seemed to work!
And so onto the pots BC. Everyone I have met has shuddered when they mentioned this BC, and after going through an entire reraise gorget trying to clear it twice, I can totally see why. Four pots, 2 rdm, 2 blm. All angry. Blm capable of Tier IV and –ga III, rdm have dispelga, Flash (I wish!), Bio III etc. Completely unsilencable. Can only be slept with Ele Seal to back it up. /panic.
I had that very morning decided rather than hold onto the 3 merits I had, put them into Enfeebling Magic, meaning with all my enf magic skill gear on, I now hit 309. Best decision I made in light of this BC. The aim was to go in, whichever smn we had in party would aggro the mobs, gather them together, and I would Ele Seal/Sleepga. Everyone would then run to the opposite wall (safe place to die), while we HAD to take down the 2 blm before we wiped. If we wiped, the pots even when going back to their plates wouldn’t regen. Hayly was backing me up with Ele Seal/Sleepga II (the reason for this order was Hayly had the tier II spell, but I could take a couple of hits till she got off the spell). After that we had no chance of sleeping them, so the blm must die before we wipe.
It took a number of times before we got it right. Nothing is more soul destroying than seeing the second blm hit its plate just before we wipe and regen from 1% to 100% in under a second. The first time we complete it, Sarise self lighted on one pot, allowing me and Hayly to burst, plus Titan was doing a fair damage, both blm pots dead, one rdm at 27%, another at 78% meant that it was a done deal.
When we were getting Endu and Istari through we tried to emulate it, but that was the round where the damn pot regenned. Heart breaking… So we asked ourself the question, do we wait for 2 hours to reset (I think mine was the only one left at this point) or do those who have passed it try Promathia, then come back and try again? Or do we give it one last chance? In the end, we decided on one last chance, and well, its amazing what six very pissed off people will do.
We managed to get one pot down very fast. Onto the second blm, I converted and gave the damn pot the full taste of Chainspell Thunder III with no resists (thank you thank you!) – second pot dead!! We did as much damage as we could to one of the rdm pots before we died, to the point with myself and Ehran left standing I decided to get out my staff and go down swinging – even connected once =). One pot at 100%, one pot at 28%. Our only fear was that the nearly dead one would run back to its pedestal and regen, so while we waited for weakness to wear, Endu was meditating (he had gone down with tp). Plan was for Ehran to voke the full health pot, while I ES/Sleep II it, with 2 Mountain Busters, 1 Gekko and whatever Hayly and I could throw at the other pot to destroy it fast.
After than was just hammer the one that was left with everything we had to kill it – we got everyone past the pots!!!
Things we noticed. Chi Blast worked wonders. Without much mnd gear (Cy borrowed a Water staff, and a mnd ring) a fully boosted Chi did approx 440 damage – when you consider each pot has around 5k hp, that’s a lot of opening damage. Each pot has an undispellable ice spikes move – it blows… Mnk is good in this, Titan rules (Mountain Buster was doing around 800 each time), and they are incredibly weak to magic, I barely got a resist.
After a quick meds stop (and a new rr item for everyone), onto Empyreal Paradox. Istari and Endu randomed for the sixth spot, Ist winning. Set up – nin, rng (Cy had changed), blm, smn, smn, rdm. Empyreal Paradox is the most graphics intensive zone I have seen yet – basically through our first attempt, my graphics card decided to have a hissy fit and complain about the power level, rendering me unable to do a thing… I had to turn down every setting, so in the end everything looked like shit!
First form – Promathia isn’t too bad, but is still annoying as hell. Prishe and Selt’heus are holding back. Still managed to take Ehran down to low health. After about a minute as you are waiting to get ready, Prishe will bumrush Promathia, just to warn everyone.
Second form. Ohhhhhhh Boy. Promathia is one nasty piece of work. Meteor is NOT fun, nor is having a massive physical shield or a magic shield. Everything you do seems to pull hate – I was curing Ehran and ended up tanking a fair bit, though having Prishe cure V you is a fun experience. I could not get enfeebles to land…
A little bit about your npc helpers. Prishe is amazing – a mnk/whm who spams holy, Banishga III, has amazing kick attacks, uses wings to help herself, uses ambrosia at the start of the fight… She can break the shields surrounding Promathia, uses 100 fists, brought out an amazing timed Benediction… Wow – just wow…
Selt’heus was a little quieter (btw, all three talk trash in say lol), but had interesting moves – including one which restores all hp, all mp and gives all players standing 300% tp – more about that in a minute.
Our first thought was to kite Promathia a la Kirin, but the second time we decided to try and let Prishe tank it, and keep her alive. His AoE attacks are seriously annoying, Meteor, you just have to try and run as far as you can from (the battle field is HUGE, but not big enough). I went down fairly quickly, reraised and helped out but after the third death I was down for the count. Same with Hayly. Cy was standing out of range using Barrage as much as she could. Ehran then went down with about 25% remaining. But we had our two summoners, who are used to working together. Spinning Dive after Spinning Dive worked Promathia’s health down, then Selt’heus used his 2 hour move, giving Ist and Aldric 300% tp – well, Aldric couldn’t resist. Promathia was destroyed by a 300% retribution from the onion whipper… Then we were treated to the single most amazing CS I have seen yet – it actually brought a lump to my throat. We have beaten Chains of Promathia!
Time to pick up my ring after work, and I will post some screenies as well. Wow – a wall o’ text to rival Ald’s normal efforts!!
As an addendum - I would like to thank everyone who was with me on this journey through CoP - its been a hard road for various reasons, but we got there. Many memories, some good, some bad - but thats the way of life.
So what now for Kir? Well, we still have Windy missions to finish, as well as the last fight for Zilart. I have promised to help out various people in CoP (though I'm now reluctant to do the pots again), and I believe we have 5/6 for any ToAU missions. So, will still be plodding away!
