I could say something like Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, but that wouldn't be fair as I fell asleep half way through the first book, and never read any more. Alan Dean Foster's Flinx series would have been my choice, but he has finally finished it.
Actually, I know. Orson Scott Card. Please stop flogging a dead horse with the Ender series. Ender's Game was perfect. The following three books were pretty good. The four books of the Ender's Shadow series, featuring Bean, was an interesting read. But now? It feels like you are just churning them out for the money.

Also, you just know he spent those five days of the League war in a blacked out room trying to get Petra to neck with him...
